En un comienzo se llamaron The dust brothers, pero tras su primera gira, The Dust Brothers originales amenazaron con un pleito por el empleo de su nombre, por lo que Rowlands y Simons tuvieron que decidir un nuevo nombre rápidamente. Ellos decidieron entonces llamarse "The Chemical Brothers", por su tema "Chemical Beats".
